Alex + Charlie | Iceland

There's something to say about bundling up in our NW Winter attire at the end of July in Iceland. I swear that it was Summer. Somewhere. Packing my bag seemed impossible. Then we were there. We gathered at the infamous church in Reykjavik, Hallgrimskirkjawith, with the bride and groom, their parents and some friends - 20 of us total. The most intimate adventure halfway across the world. No detail was left untouched, Alex and Charlie created an intricate experience for us all. From dining in the most insanely delicious local fare restaurants in Reykjavik and beyond, to cocktail hours, to boating in glacial blue waters amongst giant floating ancient ice, to galavanting on black sand beaches and enjoying the numerous hot springs, they truly included us all in celebrating their passions and love. The day of the ceremony was a day full of pivots. The weather wasn’t cooperating, decisions ran in circles, and ultimately we had to create an entirely new plan for the ceremony. Surrounding a little spot overlooking 8 huge glaciers in the distance, Alex walked the make-shift dirt road aisle to an absolutely drenched Charlie. Everyone was drenched. With rain. With tears. With love. As they said their I-do’s and walked through the huddle of their favorite people back down the aisle, there was nothing but shear joy in the celebration. Regardless of the huge shift in plans. It happened exactly how it was supposed to. We were where we needed to be and those memories, in the cold July of Iceland, are stamped in time. I’m honestly grateful my camera gear didn’t drown like the rest of us! The day after the wedding, the officiant (Rae, who is also a Wenatchee Valley local and great friend), Alex, Charlie and I had the opportunity to spend a few hours in some of their favorite locations and new ones alike to take the portraits we weren’t allotted the time or weather to take the day prior. And on the black sand beach at the original location of their ceremony, we decided to hold a “re-do.” Just the 4 of us. They pronounced their love and vows with and audience of two and vast nature engulfing us into the most sacred of moments. And to me, that was when they became one. That is where their hearts seemed to recognize “I am yours and you are mine.
